In June, we made the transition from 2 identical worship services to a split worship format. Our 9 am service features traditional music and at 10:30 am, we offer a contemporary service. We made this change believing that a contemporary format would allow us to reach more unchurched people in our community and a traditional service would provide many of our long-time members with a service option they’d prefer.
The good news is the the transition has been a success and we are realizing growth in both services! Our 9 am service has grown in attendance by over 100% and through our contemporary service, 2 families have placed their membership and 4 people have been baptized into Christ!! While we are excited to continue down the road and look forward to what God has in store for SMCC, we never want to feel as if we are two separate congregations. We want our entire church body to feel as if they are connected and in an effort to stay connected, we will feature a different family every 2 weeks in our services and on our website. This way, when we gather for monthly service or fellowship events, you will be familiar with many of the faces you see and we hope that this will help to unify and encourage our church.
Without further ado, please allow us to welcome our first Featured Family Members, The Shaw family! Martin is a business owner in Gatlinburg, Roze is a stay-at-home Mom, and they are raising 4 children: Elayna, Trevor, Robert & Stephen. Roze was baptized at SMCC, and they placed their membership here about a month ago. They attend the contemporary service at 10:30 am and love the music and style of worship. Roze volunteers as a teacher’s assistant in our Smoky Mountain Kidz elementary ministry, and Martin is actively involved in our men’s ministry.
They became acquainted with SMCC through our community outreach events, bringing the kids to Fall Festival and VBS. Those events made such an impact on their children that they began asking to go to SMCC. Martin and Roze were without a church home, and decided to give us a try. The rest, as they say, is history. Welcome to SMCC, Shaw family. We thank God for you and are honored to be a part of your faith journey!
If you see them at worship, or around town, be sure to say “hello” and offer a word of encouragement.
